Simonette River Pipeline Crossing
Design of Spur Field

CLIENT: TransCanada Corp.

TransCanada Corporation has an at-risk pipeline crossing the Simonette River, approximately 75 km northwest of Fox Creek, Alberta. They were concerned about pipeline integrity and requested the investigation of various remediation design options.

NHC was contracted to investigate several remediation design options including rock riprap protection and a spur field. The site is very remote and the Simonette is a large river, which presented significant design challenges.

The remediation options were analyzed using the two-dimensional numerical modeling program TELEMAC. Constructability, cost, and environmental impact were key design components. Ultimately, a design decision was made and NHC will continue to provide detailed design and construction monitoring support.
