|NHC Work Gathers Awards at HydroVision International|
Over 3,000 attendees from 56 different countries converged at HydroVision International in Nashville this past July, including five NHC engineers from three of our offices (Vancouver, Seattle, and Montreal). Two NHC technical papers were honored with Best Technical Papers awards, given to the strongest technical papers during the three day conference.
Second place in the Water Management and Movement category was awarded to NHC's Kara Hurtig and Brian Hughes, along with their co-authors David Brown of KGS Group and Kevin Sydor of Manitoba Hydro, for their paper Pointe Du Bois Generating Station Spillway Replacement Project – Numerical and Physical Modeling.
Second place for the Environmental and Social category was awarded to Ed Zapel and Brian Hughes, along with co-authors Hank Nelson with Avista Utilities and consultant Steve Fry, for Options for Reducing Total Dissolved Gas at the Long Lake Hydroelectric Facility.
These awards add to 2013 second place in the Water Management and Movement category awarded to NHC's Nancy Sims and Brian Hughes, and Don Murray and Amir Alavi with Hatch Ltd., for their paper Crucial Role of Physical Modeling in Developing the Configuration of the Intake Headwork Structures.
