NHC is pleased to welcome Mr. Gilles Rivard, who has joined NHC in Montreal as a Principal overseeing our practice in Urban Hydrology.
Gilles is an internationally recognized expert in urban hydrology and stormwater management. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Laval University and a Master's from the University of Alberta. Gilles has more than 30 years of experience and has published scientific articles as well as a textbook on urban stormwater management, which has become a standard reference for engineers and students in Quebec and many French-speaking countries. In addition, he authored the Storm Water Management Guidelines for the Province of Quebec, which defines the best practices put forward by the Government of Quebec for urban drainage.
Much of Gilles' consulting work is conducted for local and provincial governments, particularly Quebec. He has also worked in drainage, stormwater management, and hydraulic design for bridges on large-scale transportation projects in Canada and at the international level in Algeria, Burkina Faso, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, Morocco, Senegal, and Russia. His specific areas of work focus on innovative solutions to flooding problems, implementation of green infrastructures in urban areas, management of wet-weather flows for combined sewer overflows, and modeling expertise to decrease vulnerability to flooding and add resilience for climate change impacts.
The addition of Gilles Rivard's leadership, skills, and experience in developing innovative and effective solutions in urban hydrology further strengthens NHC's capabilities to the benefit of our clients throughout Canada, the United States, and internationally.
