NHC conducts physical modeling to support the design of the permanent new Orleans flood protection

The Permanent Canal Closures and Pumps (PCCP) Project in New Orleans, Louisiana, is being built to significantly reduce the risk of flooding in New Orleans by constructing storm surge barriers to prevent 100-year storm surge in Lake Pontchartrain. In conjunction with operation of the storm surge barriers, three pump stations are being constructed to allow the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans to evacuate rainwater, unimpeded, from the city. NHC completed a physical modeling study to help refine the detailed hydraulic design of the three pump stations and the pump discharge piping / ducts.
