civil engineering technologist / hydraulic technician - NHC seattle

Northwest Hydraulic Consultants (NHC) is an international firm of civil engineers and geoscientists providing professional services for the development, management, and protection of water resources. We are currently seeking a civil engineering technologist / hydraulic technician to participate in our river engineering, hydrology, and geomorphology projects within our Seattle, WA office. In addition to office and field responsibilities, the candidate will assist with design, construction, and testing of scaled models of hydraulic structures such as hydropower facilities, pump stations, and rivers in our physical modeling laboratory. The ideal candidate will possess a degree in engineering technology or similar with up to five years of pertinent experience with the following skills:

  • Civil Engineering Technologist skills require proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil3D; experience working with survey processing software, digital terrain modeling, GIS, total station surveys, and GPS-based surveys will be an asset.
  • Hydraulic Technician skills require physical model design skills (quantity take-offs, construction material lists, coordination with suppliers), model construction skills (basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, acrylic fabrication, basic surveying), and model operation/testing skills (pump operation, velocity and pressure measurements).

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated and detail oriented individual with a demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks to meet tight deadlines. She/he will demonstrate a commitment to high quality, client service, and excellent communication and organizational skills, and will be expected to use her/his skills to improve the quality and efficiency of our products.
