Join Our Team
HYDROCLIMATE LEAD - NHC Vancouver, British Columbia Northwest Hydraulic Consultants (NHC) is an international firm of civil engineers and geoscientists providing professional services for the development, management, and protection of water resources. We are currently seeking an individual to join our team to take a leadership role in the ongoing Hydrometric and Climate Monitoring work that is part of our river engineering, hydrology, and geomorphology projects. The position is in our North Vancouver office, but the projects are located throughout British Columbia. Relocation to one of our other BC branch offices could potentially be negotiated after a period of demonstrated success in the role.

This position has both a science role and a management function in roughly equal parts, and we envision that the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate strong abilities in both areas. Experience managing field data collection programs, supervising field staff, direct coordination with clients, and data review and analysis in AQUARIUS is required. Knowledge or demonstrated experience in the areas of business development and project management is a definite asset.

NHC uses a wide range of monitoring technologies and experience with many of these will be required:

  • Dataloggers: Campbell, Sutron, FTS, RomCom, Solinst, and Neon
  • Flow Measurement: ADCP, ADV, dilution, ultrasonic, and engineered structures
  • Water Level Sensors: Shaft encoders, pressure sensors, ultrasonics, lasers, radar, and bubblers
  • Turbidity and Sediment Transport: Analite, FTS, and Sequioa sensors, manual suspended and bedload sampling
  • Snow and Climate: Snow scales, snow pillows, air temperature, snow depth sensors
  • Precipitation: Standpipes, snow pillows, heated and unheated tipping buckets
  • Realtime Ice and Sediment: Cameras, sonar, and hydrophones
  • Realtime Time-Series Data Management: AQUARIUS Time-Series database management; python API coding, windows task management, AQUARIUS WebPortal.

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual with a demonstrated ability to support field staff to overcome various technical challenges, and an ability to clearly communicate challenges and opportunities to clients. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal are essential. The candidate will be responsible for final review of time-series data and reports, and have excellent report writing and reviewing skills. The candidate needs to have a desire to try new technologies and approaches, and to work with field staff to ensure that innovative solutions are fully field tested to ensure success.

NHC offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including annual merit-based bonuses. Most importantly, we offer the opportunity to work with like-minded individuals in an independent and specialized firm on technically challenging and satisfying real-world projects.

If you are interested in joining our team, resumes can be sent in confidence to Carol Griffiths. Only applicants selected for an interview will be contacted.

Closing Date: 15 December 2017

NHC is an equal opportunity employer.
