FLOOD modeling engineer - NHC Vancouver, British Columbia Northwest Hydraulic Consultants (NHC) is an international firm of consulting engineers and geoscientists providing professional services for the development, management, and protection of water resources. We have an immediate opening for a Flood Modeling Engineer to be based in our North Vancouver office who will be responsible for hydraulic modeling for our flood hazard and mitigation projects. Working closely with a specialized team of hydraulic engineers, hydrologists, and GIS experts, the Flood Modeling Engineer will participate in the development of hydraulic models, primarily as required for flood studies, supporting flood hazard assessments, floodplain mapping, and the design of flood mitigation measures. The modeling engineer will have experience with a variety of 1D and 2D software products, such as HEC-RAS, RAS2D, TELEMAC2D, River2D, and DHI's MIKE11, MIKE21FM, and MIKEFlood products. Familiarity with GIS tools, field investigations, and survey needs for different model applications is also required. A broad understanding of river behavior to confirm that modelled results are realistic is essential. Experience working with municipalities, regional districts, provincial and federal governments, as well as knowledge of floodplain mapping guidelines and relevant standards is considered an asset.

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in engineering or earth sciences, with a focus on water resources and hydrology.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the field of numerical modeling and flood hazard assessment, either in public or private sector organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present to technical and non-technical groups, stakeholders, and communities.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a professional engineer or geoscientist in BC.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to high quality client service and will be expected to use his/her skills to improve the quality and efficiency of our projects. In return, NHC offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including annual merit-based bonuses.
