ENGINEERING CAD TECHNICIAN  NHC Sacramento Northwest Hydraulic Consultants (NHC) is an international firm of consulting civil engineers and geoscientists providing professional services for the development, management, and protection of water resources. We are currently seeking a candidate with strong skills in computer-aided drafting using AutoCAD Civil3D and an interest in field data collection to participate in our river engineering, modeling, and hydraulic design projects based in the firm's Sacramento office.

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual with a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to prioritize multiple tasks to meet tight deadlines. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to high quality, client service, and excellent communication and organizational skills.

The position will provide support for various hydraulic designs and analyses, including but not limited to: fish passage, hydraulic structures, streambank erosion control and stabilization countermeasures, river restoration, and hydraulic modeling. Drafting assignments involve independent responsibility for preparation of quantities, estimates, grades, elevations, maps, and complete design plan sets (including plans, profiles, alignments, surfaces, and cross section details to support projects of considerable scope and complexity). Field data collection will include topographic and bathymetric surveys, construction staking, and collection of discharge measurements to support hydraulic analyses and design.

The following skills and experience are required:
 
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Ability to serve as a CAD specialist for complex and unique projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly through verbal and written form on highly technical information
  • Preparation of engineering plans and specifications and/or construction permitting documents
  • Experience with survey processing software and digital terrain modeling  

The following skills and experience are desired:

  • Collecting field data including total station surveys, GPS-based surveys (static, RTK, and DGPS), and hydrographic surveying
  • Registered PLS
  • Demonstrated ability to train other CAD operators and/or designers
  • Experience working with GIS
